The Second Street corridor is the major pedestrian and retail street linking the financial district to SOMA and AT&T Park. It connects Market Street to the warehouse-turned –office buildings of SOMA. The area has undergone a rapid transformation over the last 15 years as tech tenants and new residential development have brought new vitality to the area. Second Street is just a few blocks from the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) and the George P. Moscone Convention Center.

Second Street sits adjacent to the new Transbay Terminal, scheduled to be completed in 2017. Once completed, it will be a one million square foot regional transportation hub, with eleven transit operators that will serve more than 100,000 passengers each weekday.

The San Francisco Planning Department has identified 2nd Street as a primary pedestrian, bicycle and transit thoroughfare and ‘green connector’ for the neighborhood and has embarked on a project to improve the corridor. Improvements being considered are: dedicated bike lanes, pedestrian safety enhancements, lighting, benches and corner bulb outs.
